THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA APPOINTED AS KIMBERLY PROCESS WGM CHAIR
The Republic of South Africa as one of the founding members of the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) which started its implementation in 2003, has been appointed to chair the working group on monitoring for the period of 2017 until 2019. The Republic of South Africa took over from the European Union which chaired the working group since 2003.
Dr. Sipho Manese, the chairperson of the Board of South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator was appointed by the Minister of the Department of Minerals Resources, Honourable Msebenzi Zwane to take the leadership role of chairing the working group on behalf of the Republic of South Africa.
The working group on monitoring plays a pivotal role in monitoring the implementation of Kimberley Process by its 54 member countries including European Union which counts as a single member.
The Republic of South Africa served as the Kimberly Process chair in 2003 and again in 2013 when scheme was celebrated its 10th year anniversary.
